What fans should be aware of is that Wonder Woman will be an origin story, so we won’t quite see what actress Gal Gadot described as the “experienced, super-confident, grown-up woman”
that appeared with Batman and Superman. The film will go back to
Diana’s home island of Themyscira, where she is raised by her mother
Queen Hippolyta (Connie Neilsen), and trained to be a warrior by General
Antiope (Robin Wright) and Lieutenant Menalippe (Lisa Loven Kongsli).
Recent on-location footage from Italy, which you can see below (via Comic Book),
shows the extensive set and huge cast assembled for the scenes
in Themyscira. Like the mythology which inspired the creation of the
Amazon characters, the style of Ancient Greece is prevalent in the
setting and wardrobe. A young girl in a simple dress and metallic
armbands is seen running in front of a camera crew, possibly shooting
flashbacks of Diana as a child.
The Wonder Woman script, penned by Jason Fuchs (Pan),
will show us the journey of Diana as a young, naive idealist whose
introduction to the outside world is during World War I. Previous set
photos showed additional scenes in Themyscira,
when pilot Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) washes up on shore. While not much
is yet known about the full plot of the film, we know that Diana goes
on to fight alongside Trevor in the war.
With
all of the recent movie and TV reboots of well-known comic book
characters, origin stories have become a bit exhausting to sit through,
regardless of any tweaks to the original storyline. Fans of Gadot’s
appearance in Batman V Superman may also be disappointed in not
getting to see the full-fledged heroine in action, with the film
instead rewinding back to a more innocent age

The hope is that Wonder Woman
will bring the best of both worlds. Considering her scarcity on the big
screen, presenting her origin story is still a fresh idea, and it will
be interesting to see how her life on Themyscira with her fellow Amazons
is portrayed. Outside of B-movie marathons, it’s not often we get
treated to an all-female cast of warriors. It also sounds like we’ll get
plenty of chances to see Wonder Woman developing and using her fighting
skills, bullet-deflection, and the full powers
we didn’t yet see in her DCEU debut. The images and video from the set
so far indicate a film pretty epic in scope, and here’s hoping director
Patty Jenkins can combine the elements into something all fans of the
Amazon hero can enjoy.NEXT: Wonder Woman CinemaCon Footage Details
